Lily Cornell Silver welcomes two incredible guests on the latest episode of her IGTV series Mind Wide Open. She is joined by
Allison Hagendorf (Spotify’s Global Head Of Rock/Host of “Rock This” and Health/Wellness Coach) and Media icon, author, (MTV/VJ/Record Executive and TV/Radio host), Matt Pinfield.
Allison and Matt speak with Lily about their lifelong friendship, addiction, recovery, and the importance of self care, staying healthy and the tools to do it in both body and mind. They also touch on the growth of mental health awareness in the music industry.
In this episode which details so much of how they both stay healthy and positive, Allison talks about her relationship with Matt: “The advice I’d give to people is: find that person or people that you can trust one billion percent. No matter what, you know they love you unconditionally...Keep those people in your life, there’s nothing more important than that.”
Matt talks about his own struggle with addiction and the importance of healthy relationships in staying sober, “When I hear about people that relapse, 90% of the time they’ll say that they’ve lost contact with their network of friends...checking in with a sponsor or just those great friends that know what you’re going through is what will help.”
Lily also talked to Matt and Allison about their dual roles in the music industry and they both happily referred to themselves as “rock and roll missionaries.” Lily says, “The show brings out the importance of great friendships, core people in your life that are the ones to reach out to in the middle of the night. They are leading the way in the music industry along with a new crop of artists and managers that inspire sobriety and dealing with mental health in an honest way.”
As in previous episodes, Lily continues her mission to destigmatize conversations around mental health in all forms and to provide resources to help with those challenges. Since its launch in July, Mind Wide Open and Lily have been featured in Rolling Stone, Maria Shriver’s Sunday Paper, Variety, NME, ET, and the Seattle Times among many others.
Past shows featured Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, Grief expert/Author David Kessler, activist, musician, author Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot, Singer/songwriter Fantastic Negrito, Dr. Laura van Dernoot-Lipsky of the Trauma Stewardship in Seattle, Alicia Bognanno of Bully, Dr. Marc Brackett, author of Permission to Feel and founding Director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, TikTok/Instagram influencer Sir Carter, Guns N’ Roses bassist, Duff McKagan, and Monique Minahan, founder of The Grief Practice.

ABOUT MATT PINFIELD
Matt Pinfield knew he wanted to be a disc jockey when he was only four years old after becoming inspired by the legendary DJs of New York City's WABC. With his head glued to his transistor radio day in and day out, it was only a matter of time before he convinced his physics-teacher-father to build him his own AM radio transmitter in the basement of his East Brunswick, New Jersey home. By the time Matt turned nine, he had his very own AM radio station equipped with a microphone, two turntables, and a cheap Radio Shack mixer. He would race home from school and do radio shows, and had all of his neighborhood friends help. Matt is the host of the classic rock history syndicated weekend radio show "Flashback" for Cumulus Radio Networks which airs on over 200 stations in the U.S. and Canada including KLOS in Los Angeles and KSAN in San Francisco. He also produces "The Hivecast with Matt Pinfield" which is a free podcast through iTunes and MTVHIVE.COM. Matt started a live streaming show to benefit MusiCares for the COVID-19 pandemic, called "In A Lonely Place with Matt Pinfield" featuring conversations with artists as diverse as Foster The People and Yungblud.
